Dambusters takes you back to May 1943 when the Royal Air Force carried out attacks on the major dams of the Ruhr valley.

Formally known as Operation Chastise the attack on German dams was carried out on 16–17 May by Royal Air Force No. 617 Squadron, using a specially developed "bouncing bomb" invented and developed by Sir Barnes Wallis. The Möhne and Eder Dams were breached, causing catastrophic flooding of the Ruhr valley and of villages in the Eder valley.

The app enables you to try your hand at breaching the Mohne and Eder dams in Lancaster ‘P’ for Poppy. To be successful you’ll need to ensure that when you approach the ‘drop zone’ your speed and height are constant and the bomb is dropped at precisely the correct distance from the dam wall.

Along the way you’ll have to dodge obstacles and flak. There’s no hanging about - you open straight onto the bombing run so you’ll need to keep your wits about you. Once you’ve succeeded with breaching the Mohne dam you can progress to the more challenging Eder dam.
